95% of the turtles we receive at our indoor or outdoor shelters are in poor health. The task of the observers is therefore an important one. By regularly observing the turtles in the pond tanks or ponds and the tortoises in the pens, you will learn to recognise normal and abnormal behaviour. We will also teach you about diseases, nutrition, housing and behaviour. Previous knowledge about tortoises is therefore not required. If you observe abnormal behaviour, vet Tim or head keeper Gaston will determine what the follow-up action is. In this way, together we can make the turtles’ health optimal. You can perform the task independently at flexible times that are convenient for you, but this can also be done in the presence of other volunteers. In winter, observation takes place at the Pater Kusterweg in Cadier en Keer, just across the border from Maastricht, and in summer observation takes place at the Vijverdalseweg in Maastricht (Scharn district).
