Turtle sanctuary volunteer

Do you have a love of animals and enjoy working independently? We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer for the Faunawatch turtle sanctuary who would like to help with the rescue and care of turtles.

About the sanctuary

Faunawatch’s indoor shelter, greenhouse and medical room are located on the grounds/in the building of the youth care institution Via Jeugd in Cadier en Keer. In addition, there is an outdoor shelter on the grounds of the mental health care institution Mondriaan in Maastricht. Here, turtles are taken in, cared for and monitored.

What will you do?

As a volunteer, you will assist with a wide range of tasks at the sanctuary. These include:

  • Observing tortoises and noting any unusual behaviour
  • Caring for turtles
  • Maintenance work in and around the sanctuary
  • Various practical or (where applicable) technical tasks

Who do we look for?

We are looking for a volunteer who:

  • The role is flexible and involves working twice a week, preferably for at least 2 hours each time (up to a maximum of approximately 5 hours). The start time is to be agreed and can be arranged independently.
  • An affinity for reptiles (experience with turtles is a bonus, but certainly not a requirement).
  • Prepared to take various tasks within the childcare centre.
  • Able to work well independently; you will regularly be on your own.

What do we offer?

  • A unique volunteering role where you make a direct contribution to animal welfare
  • A high degree of independence and flexibility in working hours
  • The opportunity to gain experience in reptile rescue and animal care
  • A varied working environment with a range of tasks

Would you like to help look after turtles? If so, we’d love to hear from you!
